AbstractIn vitro research is performed in a laboratory outside the body, such as work with cultured cells or a cell-free reaction. In vivo research occurs within a living body or intact organism. The labels describe experimental settings, not a quality ranking. Each result applies first to the model, material, measurements, and conditions actually studied, so neither term alone establishes that the same effect will occur in people.

What Is the Difference Between In Vitro and In Vivo?

What Does In Vitro Mean in Practice?

  2. Source: Which species, tissue, cell type, or participant group supplied the material?
  3. Conditions: What environment, timing, dose, or exposure did the researchers specify?
  4. Comparison: What control or reference condition made the result interpretable?
  5. Outcome: What did the experiment actually measure?
  6. Boundary: Which conclusion follows directly, and which proposed next step still needs testing?
